The first to hear the good news of Jesus’ resurrection were the faithful women who had
gone to the tomb to serve their Lord one last time (as they thought) in his death. Their Easter experience left them bewildered, but they soon recovered to proclaim with great joy that Jesus is alive and victorious. Will our annual visit to the empty tomb prompt the same response in us?

Jesus compares himself to the bronze snake. He was lifted up to pay for the sins of the
world.

Jesus instructs his followers about his suffering, death, and resurrection. When Peter tries to discourage him, Jesus points out that the way of the Christ – and of the Christian – is the way of the cross.

Jesus’ time of testing in the desert followed immediately after the glorious experience of his Baptism. Mark is almost a matter of fact as he tells about it and the beginning of Jesus’ preaching, but Jesus’ struggle in the desert had cosmic implications.
